Johnson Wagner rallied for a two-stroke victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii, the first full-field event of the 2012 PGA Tour season.
Wagner, 31, closed with a 3-under par 67 to finish at 13-under 267, earning $990,000 for his third career PGA Tour victory. He played bogey-free golf over the final 12 holes, which proved to be the winning formula on a tough day at Waialae Country Club.
Five players shared the lead at various points during the final round: Harrison Frazar, Charles Howell III, Sean O'Hair, Carl Pettersson, and Wagner himself.
Carl Pettersson (67), Sean O'Hair (67), Harrison Frazar (67), and Charles Howell III (69) tied for second place at 11-under.
Wagner attributed his success to intense offseason preparation, including a 20-pound weight loss and a distinctive new mustache.
"I was definitely telling people to expect something early this year, which is a nice feeling."
The win secured Wagner a berth to the Masters and extended his Tour privileges through 2014.
